Changelog
What changed in each version, newest first.
2.3.0
- Press and hold the Beatcast icon on the Home Screen for Start Session, or End Session while a session records, on iPhone and iPad. End Session there saves the session without asking whether to keep it. If a session cannot start, Beatcast opens and says why.
2.2.1
- During the free trial, Beatcast can send a notification two days before the trial ends. Switch it off under Settings > Trial reminder.
- From 27 November to 3 December, Beatcast shows the Black Friday sale, as long as the lower price is live in your storefront.
- Tapping a notification opens Beatcast reliably.
2.2.0
- History opens on Sessions or Weeks. A week card shows the week number, the time recorded and a bar for each day, plus a thin zone bar with its goal for each zone profile you used that week.
- Each week has its own page, with the week's figures and your time in each zone, the target zone picked out. Share week turns it into slides for a carousel or a short video: totals, time in your target zone, time in each zone, the longest session and the week day by day. You choose the slides and what they show. Sensor name, tags, notes and time of day are never shared.
- A weekly recap. On the first morning of a new week, after a week with three or more sessions or one of five minutes or longer, a notification opens last week's page. Switch it off under Settings > Weekly recap notifications.
- Start Session and End Session are also controls, for Control Center, the Lock Screen and the Action button. End Session saves the session without opening Beatcast.
- Time in each zone now follows the zone changes shown during the session. Older sessions are unchanged.
- At the largest text sizes, the session share options stack instead of crowding. On iPad, a merged session stays open beside the list.
2.1.0
- Share a session as a video of your heart rate curve drawing itself, ending on the finished summary, or as a picture for a post, a Story, a square or a sticker. Both are made on your device. Open a session in History and tap Share, or pick Save & Share when it ends. The date, calories, a record badge, the sensor, the zone profile, tags and your time in the target zone each have a switch, and Beatcast remembers what you chose. Notes and the time of day are never shared. The Instagram and TikTok buttons save it to Photos and open the app.
- Alerts now belong to the zone profile. Each one keeps its own alerts and the way they reach you: sound, spoken alerts, haptic taps or notifications. You find them under Settings > Zone profiles, in the profile. The Settings page itself is shorter, in three groups.
- A spoken time check, set per zone profile: the session time and your heart rate, every few minutes or every few hours. If only the basic voice is installed, Settings shows how to get a more natural one, and Play sample lets you hear it.
- History has search and sort. Each session shows its resting heart rate: its lowest one-minute average.
- The full screen view can show the time of day, and flip for reading in a mirror.
2.0.1
- A new App Store page with new screenshots. The app is the same as in 2.0.0.
2.0.0
- Beatcast on Apple Watch. The heart rate from the strap or arm band connected to your iPhone shows on your wrist, in your zone colour. Time in zone and the session time come with it. Start and end a session from the watch. Needs an iPhone paired with an Apple Watch on watchOS 26 or later.
- On the watch, a tap when your zone changes, and Heart Rate and Zone complications for the watch face. Heart rate outside sessions is there if you turn it on.
- Weeks, in History. A card for each week adds up time, sessions, heart rate and the time in each zone. Set a weekly goal for your target zone, and each week shows how close you came.
- Zone details, from a week's zones: a table per zone, the week day by day, its sessions and the last eight weeks. The weekly summary exports as CSV.
1.12.3
- The welcome screen says that Beatcast needs a heart rate sensor, such as a strap or an armband, and on iPhone AirPods Pro 3.
- Onboarding and the sensor options describe the camera as a quick spot check between sessions.
1.12.2
- Opening a session from History no longer closes Beatcast when the session ended while paused, whether you paused it or Beatcast did after the sensor dropped out. Sessions saved with earlier versions open too. None were lost.
1.12.1
- When a session ends, the timer in its summary on the Lock Screen stops at the session's length. Discarding a session removes the summary at once.
- The broadcast sheet explains what applies right now. While a session is running, you can lock the phone or switch apps and equipment can still find Beatcast. Without a session, keep Beatcast on screen.
1.12.0
- Zone alerts. Pick zones in a zone profile, and Beatcast gives a cue when your heart rate enters one and stays there for the time you set. They are off until you turn them on.
- Alerts & recovery is simpler. The ceiling and the floor can each follow the target zone or use a value you set, and "Wait before alert" now goes up to 10 minutes.
- The rest coach on the Monitor is one button, Start recovery, with the floor beside it. Tap the floor to change it. A single low reading no longer ends a rest. Automatic start and max rest are now set per zone profile, on its Alerts & recovery page.
- Five new zone profile templates: Strength, Zone 2, Intervals, Mindfulness and Overnight, or a Custom profile with zones of your own. The first time you open Beatcast, pick up to three uses and each gets a profile.
- The Monitor: the zone profile switch sits beside the sensor, the chart's time range is in the chart, and the heart rate moves into the title bar as you scroll. The session's third figure is the time in your target zone, or in the zone you are in.
- Ending a session opens a summary: length, average, time in each zone and one highlight.
- Save to Apple Health keeps the heart rate when Workouts is turned off in Health.
- Settings has a Help page with a topic for each area, and shorter notes under the switches. About you is now Personal details, and About links to Beatcast on Instagram.
- Settings can save your sessions and zone profiles to a backup file, for a reinstall or a new iPhone or iPad.
1.11.0
- Alert delay. "Alert after" (off, 15, 30 or 60 seconds) is set per zone profile. An alert waits until your heart rate has stayed out of range that long.
- Ceiling and floor can follow the zone profile's target zone, and move with it when the zones change.
- End Session is a shortcut. Run it from Siri or the Shortcuts app to end and save the running session without opening Beatcast.
- On iPhone, an optional heart rate graph on the Lock Screen, in Settings > Display. It is off by default.
- Broadcasting heart rate to gym equipment starts more reliably. While a session runs you can lock the phone or open another app, and equipment can still find Beatcast. The broadcast sheet now says so.
- A reading of 0 bpm, which a strap sends when it briefly loses skin contact, is no longer recorded. It stays out of Apple Health, averages, charts and exports.
- The connect guide and Supported devices: Suunto Race 2, Vertical 2, Race and Race S can broadcast heart rate since their April 2026 update. The hint about sensors taking one connection at a time is corrected.
- VoiceOver: the Open Settings buttons say what they open, and Settings paths are read without "greater than".
- The zone colour Deep blue is now called Cerulean.
1.10.0
- Beatcast in Japanese: on screen, in widgets and the Live Activity, in Siri phrases and in the permission prompts.
- The App Store page is now also in Japanese, Canadian French and European Portuguese.
- Japanese text fits in History and a session's page at the largest text sizes.
1.9.0
- Zone profiles. Keep zones for training and others for winding down, each with its own colours, target zone and alerts, and switch between them on the Monitor. A switch during a session applies from the next one. History shows which profile a session was recorded with.
- The first time you open Beatcast, your answer to "What will you use it for?" sets up the matching zone profiles. After the update, the zones you already had become your first profile, unchanged.
- Three colour palettes for the zones, one of them colour-blind safe, or a colour of your choosing for any single zone.
- A target zone. Pick one to hold, and while a session records, the line under your heart rate says whether you are in it, above it or below it. Leave it and the edges of the screen light up and pulse once.
- On iPhone Duo, half-folded on a table, the heart rate fills the upper half and large controls sit on the lower half. Stand it up like a tent on a charger and the session shows in StandBy. Open the phone during a session and the number grows with the hinge. Folding changes only the layout. It never pauses or ends a session.
- Ask "What's my heart rate in Beatcast?" with Siri to hear your heart rate, your zone and the time recorded so far, without opening the app.
- Finished sessions can be found in Spotlight and in the Shortcuts app.
- When the screen dims, the session on the Lock Screen turns red.
- On iPad, History shows the list and the open session side by side.
- In History, Select lets you merge sessions, edit their tags or delete several at once. Merged sessions keep the gaps between them as pauses.
- A session's page shows the zone profile it was recorded with: its zones and colours, target zone, alerts and rest coach.
- A connection log, off until you switch it on in Settings, under About. It records Bluetooth connections, no heart rate values, and stays on the device until you email it.
- The Monitor is tidier: the sensor and its battery share one chip, and the zone profile switch sits beside the chart's time span.
- Ceiling and floor alerts, and whether the rest coach runs, now belong to each zone profile: Settings > Zone profiles > a profile > Alerts & recovery. How alerts reach you stays one page for every profile, in Settings, and now also holds starting recovery automatically and max rest.
- Profile in Settings is now called About you.
1.8.1
- Heart rate from AirPods Pro 3 or Powerbeats Pro 2 now reaches Beatcast on iPhone. In 1.8.0 it could fail. One permission was never requested. Their row in the sensor list is titled AirPods Pro 3 or Powerbeats Pro 2, and before you are asked for access to Apple Health, one screen explains what will be asked for. That includes access to workouts, which live heart rate from the earbuds needs.
- If a permission for Bluetooth, Apple Health, the camera, notifications or Live Activities is off, Beatcast says which one and offers to open Settings, or asks again. It no longer waits in vain.
- If a session can't be saved to Apple Health, or the save switch can't turn on, the message names the permissions that are off.
- The earbuds sensor is now called Earbuds in History, in exports and on the Lock Screen.
1.8.0
- Start, pause and resume a session with Siri, Spotlight or the Shortcuts app, or start one with the Action button on iPhone 15 Pro and later, once your sensor is sending.
- Share a finished session as a picture from its detail screen, with calories on it only if you pick Share as image with calories.
- The heart rate line now breaks where the sensor dropped out, on the session chart, in the explorer and on the shared picture.
- If a scan finds nothing for a few seconds, setup explains what counts as a sensor and where to find the list of devices.
- Deleting a session from the History list asks for confirmation beside the row, and the list stays still while it asks.
- Settings adds Rate Beatcast, Share Beatcast and a link to the frequently asked questions, moves Show intro again up beside the help, gives Share your heart rate its own page and explains the Display setting.
- Zone durations in the event log now match TIME IN ZONE, and a session still recording shows its time in zone so far.
- In the explorer, the time labels stay put while you pan, and the time into the session no longer counts pauses.
- Default zone names follow your phone's language.
- Better wording with VoiceOver, proper headings, labels for Voice Control on the purchase screen, and fixes for large text on iPad.
1.7.0
- Hold the Dynamic Island open and your heart rate trend fills it, reaching as far back as the live chart.
- If your sensor drops out while you are broadcasting, Beatcast keeps sending your last reading for up to a minute, so connected equipment has a number to hold on to.
- Broadcasting stays on the first time you turn it on, while iOS is still asking for Bluetooth permission.
- After the free trial, tapping Not Now on the purchase screen stops it coming back each time you return to the app.
- The time labels under the session chart no longer pile up or get cut off.
1.6.1
- Broadcasting works again: in 1.6 it could not start.
- If notifications are on, Beatcast tells you when your equipment can't see it or has disconnected, so you know to open it.
- A saved session opens straight away, where it used to take a few seconds.
1.6.0
- History is easier to read. Sessions are grouped by day, you can filter by tag, and a session shows which zones it was recorded against.
- Tap the heart rate chart to explore it full screen.
- The live chart covers 3 to 60 minutes.
1.5.0
- Bug fixes and small improvements.
1.4.0
- Calories can sit beside heart rate and time, off by default. Switch them on in Settings and enter your weight and sex. The figure is calculated from your heart rate, so it is an estimate.
- Sessions that stop unexpectedly still land in your history.
1.3.0
- Ukrainian, as an eighth language.
- A short launch screen. Owners of the full version no longer see the trial notice or a purchase screen on the way in.
- A saved sensor reconnects by itself after buying or restoring.
- Settings has a short top level, with pages behind it.
1.2.0
- German, French, Spanish, Italian, Dutch and Brazilian Portuguese as well as English, down to the Lock Screen, the Dynamic Island, widgets and permission prompts.
- Screens that explain where your heart rate turns up and how to connect a first sensor.
- A sensor no longer shows a live reading while its status still says Connecting.
- Large text no longer clips, and the Bluetooth permission notice links into Settings.
1.1.0
- Beatcast runs on iPad, as a stationary display.
- Export a session as TCX as well as CSV.
- Edit or delete a saved session.
- A redesigned live chart.
- Sessions saved to Apple Health no longer all count as strength training.
1.0.0
- The first release. Your heart rate from a Bluetooth sensor, or a fingertip on the camera for a spot check, large on screen, in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen, with zones, alerts, a session history and CSV export.
