Weekly zone 2 minutes on iPhone

Short answer

Record your sessions with a strap or arm band connected to Beatcast, then open History and switch to Weeks. Tap a week to open its page, which lists the time you spent in each zone. Give your zone profile a target zone and a weekly goal, and the week also shows how far it got. It reads like "1 hr, 20 min of 2 hr, 30 min in Zone 2 · Endurance".

This week and the weeks before

The newest week sits at the top as a large card, with the week number and its dates. When your zone profile has a goal, the big figure is your time in the target zone, with a progress bar towards the goal. Without one, it is the time recorded. Under it is a bar for each zone, the target zone in bold. Last comes the session count.

Older weeks are slim rows below, each with a thin zone bar and the time in the goal's zone. A week that reached its goal gets a check mark. Each row opens its week.

The zone minutes by name are on the week's page. In the default Training profile, zone 2 is called Endurance, so the number you came for reads something like "Endurance 48:00".

The tag and zone profile filters in History apply to Weeks as well. Filter by a tag such as "easy rides" and the weeks count only those sessions.

Set a weekly goal

The goal belongs to a zone profile and counts minutes in that profile's target zone.

  1. Open Settings, then Zone profiles, and tap the profile you train with.
  2. Set Target zone. For zone 2 in the Training profile, that is Zone 2 · Endurance.
  3. Tap Weekly goal and turn the hours and minutes wheels to the time you want.

Zero hours and zero minutes means no goal. Without a target zone there is no goal row at all, because there is nothing for it to count.

From then on, each week shows your time in the target zone against the goal. A target zone also does its job during a session: the line under the heart rate says In target, Above or Below.

The week's own page

A week's page has the time recorded with a bar for each day, the week's figures, and a block for each zone profile you used. Each block has a row per zone, with the target zone in bold and a progress bar towards your goal. Share week is on this page too, for slides or a short video.

A tap on a profile block opens Zone details. By zone is a table of each zone's time, its share of the week and the change from the week before. By day charts the week in zone colours, and Weekly goal shows the goal as a progress bar. Sessions lists the week's sessions and opens one when you tap it. Last 8 weeks puts the same zones on a weekly chart. Handy for telling a light week from a normal one.

How Beatcast counts a week

A week starts on the day your region's calendar starts it, Monday in most of Europe and Sunday in the United States. A session counts in the week it started in, so a late session that runs past midnight on the last day stays in the old week.

Beatcast adds up minutes within one zone profile. A Training session and a Winding down session each get their own block on the week's page. The zone 2 of one profile is a different range from the zone 2 of another. Rename a profile, or change how many zones it has, and the sessions after that form a new block too.

How many minutes to aim for

The number is yours. Beatcast counts towards whatever goal you set. If a coach or a training plan gives you a weekly figure for zone 2, put that in. Where your zone 2 sits in beats per minute depends on how you define it, and the zone 2 guide walks through four common definitions.

Why it needs a sensor

The minutes come from the heart rate a session records, about one reading a second from a strap or arm band. Wear it wherever it reads well. No sensor, no zone time. If you are setting one up, start with connecting it.

Take the numbers with you

In Weeks, the More menu has Export weekly summary, which makes a CSV of the weekly summary. It has one row per week and zone profile, with the minutes in each zone. The export guide lists its columns.

Questions

How do I see how many minutes I spent in zone 2 this week?

In History, switch to Weeks and tap this week. Its page lists the time in each zone. In the Training profile, zone 2 is Endurance.

Can I set a weekly zone 2 goal?

Yes. In Settings > Zone profiles, open your profile, set Zone 2 as the Target zone, then set a Weekly goal in hours and minutes.

Can I track a zone other than zone 2?

Yes. The goal counts whichever zone is the profile's target zone, and the week's page shows the time for every zone either way.

Do sessions with different zone profiles add up?

No. Each profile gets its own block on the week's page, since the same zone number can mean a different range in another profile.

Can I export my weekly zone minutes?

Yes, as a CSV from the More menu in Weeks. The file leaves out the weekly goal.

Does it work without an Apple Watch?

Yes. A Bluetooth strap or arm band connected to the iPhone is all a session needs. See the guide to heart rate monitors without an Apple Watch.
