Polar Verity Sense with an iPhone
Updated
Short answer
The Polar Verity Sense is an optical arm band that sends heart rate over Bluetooth and ANT+ at the same time. An iPhone hears the Bluetooth, and Polar says the sensor works with dozens of fitness apps. It starts in heart rate mode when you switch it on. Wait for the LEDs, then choose it in the app.

What works, and what to expect
- Works: live heart rate over Bluetooth. Polar says it works with dozens of fitness apps.
- Works: two Bluetooth receivers at once. Polar's manual says the "2 Bluetooth devices" setting is on by default, and Flow is where you change it.
- Won't work: ANT+ on an iPhone.
Heart rate mode
Polar's page gives the steps. Press the button to turn the sensor on. Polar's manual says it starts in heart rate mode by default. To change mode, press the button again briefly until the LED next to the heart icon lights, and the side status LED turns blue. Wait until all six LEDs light. The sensor is then ready to send.
Polar asks you to pair the sensor with the Flow app or a Polar watch first, and says to follow the app developer's instructions for other apps. With Beatcast there is nothing to pair in iOS Settings. Choose it in the sensor list.
Fit
An optical sensor reads through the skin, so contact matters. Wear it snug against bare skin on the forearm or upper arm, wherever it sits comfortably, and keep it from sliding. Sweat and movement make any optical sensor harder to read. Polar says accuracy from different locations varies from person to person.
ANT+ and the dual Bluetooth setting
Polar says the sensor sends Bluetooth and ANT+ together, and that you can turn ANT+ off in Flow. On an iPhone that changes nothing. The "2 Bluetooth devices" setting is the one that counts. Polar's manual says it is on by default, so a watch and a phone can both connect. If the phone cannot find the sensor, check the setting in Flow. The two devices guide has the model-by-model picture.
If it never appears, see the checklist.
What Beatcast does with it
Once the arm band is connected the number goes to the Dynamic Island and the Lock Screen while a session runs, and stays there in other apps. The readout takes the colour of your zone, and the session is kept with time in zone and exports as CSV or TCX.
