Garmin HRM-Pro Plus with iPhone

Updated

Short answer

The Garmin HRM-Pro Plus sends heart rate over Bluetooth and ANT+. Strava's support pages say ANT+ sensors are not supported directly on iPhone, so the Bluetooth side is the one to use. Wear the strap, open the app, pick it from the list.

What works, and what to expect

  • Works: live heart rate over Bluetooth in an app that reads the standard service.
  • Won't work: ANT+ on an iPhone.
  • Check first: Garmin's HRM 600 manual describes a secure and an open Bluetooth connection, and recommends open for third-party devices. We have not checked whether the HRM-Pro Plus offers the same choice, so look in Garmin's manual for your strap if it doesn't appear.

Wake it and connect

Moisten the electrode areas, put the strap on, and give it a few seconds. Then pick it from the sensor list inside the app. Beatcast connects without bonding, so there is nothing to set up in iOS Settings.

If it doesn't show, the cause is usually a second device that already holds it. A Garmin watch on Bluetooth, a bike computer or another app can take the slot. The two devices guide explains the limits, and the checklist takes the causes in order.

What Beatcast does with it

While a session runs the number sits in the Dynamic Island and on the Lock Screen, and it stays on while you use another app. Zones colour the readout. The session is kept with time in zone and exports as CSV or TCX.

Questions

Is the HRM-Pro Plus compatible with an iPhone?

It sends the standard Bluetooth heart rate signal, so an app that reads it can use it. ANT+ isn't available on an iPhone.

Do I need a Garmin watch?

No. The strap sends heart rate to a phone app on its own.

What about the HRM 600?

We tested it with Beatcast: Garmin HRM 600 with iPhone.

What about the HRM-Dual?

It has its own page: Garmin HRM-Dual with iPhone.
